Invention - by chance
The business Xinix was started by the current CEO Peter Holmberg's father Göran Holmberg almost 30 years ago.
Göran worked internationally and saw a need for a simple water disinfectant to carry with him when he traveled around the world. Together with an innovator, he developed the product AquaCare (now FreeBact), based on a proprietary stabilized chlorine dioxide, ClO2. Something that initially happened by chance.
The first 10 years were dedicated to product development and personal use.
Our chief chemist Dr. Robert Heinrich has, since 2016, further developed our products for various purposes, such as surface disinfection. Robert has also stabilized the products, which among other things, has given them a longer shelf life.
The Secret of Chlorine Dioxide
Chlorine dioxide (Cl02) is naturally a GAS – but Xinix has managed to stabilize and bind it into LIQUID form.
Chlorine dioxide is not a new disinfectant; it was discovered in 1811 by Sir Humphry Davy. Since the 1930s, it has been recognized and used as a highly effective agent against microorganisms and is employed as a disinfectant in large-scale applications, i.e., industries. For a long time, chlorine dioxide was mainly used for purifying drinking water, but on a larger scale and within industries.
Chlorine dioxide is a very effective disinfectant against microorganisms, and it is also more environmentally friendly compared to chlorine.
Chlorine dioxide is a selective oxidant and very effectively eliminates bacteria, disinfects surfaces, and destroys biofilms.
Chlorine dioxide is bactericidal and virucidal at concentrations as low as 0.1 ppm.
Even with minimal contact time, chlorine dioxide is very effective against disease-causing organisms such as Legionella, Listeria, Salmonella, amoebic cysts, Giardia cysts, E. Coli, and Cryptosporidium. Since chlorine dioxide destroys biofilm, it also prevents bacterial regrowth (i.e., the slimy substance on the inside of, for example, tanks, pipes, and water containers).
Chlorine dioxide is approved within the EU and by the Swedish Food Agency and is recommended by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) as a disinfection additive for drinking water, to replace chlorine (which produces carcinogenic byproducts).
What is the difference compared to other products?
XINIX eliminates ALL viruses, bacteria, protozoa, amoebae, and fungi – even spore-forming bacteria.
What is the difference compared to other products?
Alcohol-based disinfection has no effect on naked viruses or spore-forming bacteria, which are a major cause of HAI – healthcare-associated infections that lead to 4 deaths every day in Sweden.
Chlorine-based disinfection of water and surfaces takes time, and bacteria can build up resistance to chlorine. Furthermore, a significantly larger amount of chlorine is required than XINIX products, which are about 5 times as effective as chlorine-based disinfectants.
Unlike the above, XINIX products are a chlorine dioxide-based disinfection – our products provide drinking water quality.
