From handshake to hope: Xinix and Drinkwell unite to bring safe water to flood-affected communities in India
A firm handshake between two innovators, under the gaze of both the Swedish and Indian flags, marked the beginning of a promising collaboration for cleaner, safer water in India.
Kolkata, India – April 8, 2025
Peter Holmberg, CEO of Xinix Global AB, stood alongside Mr. Sudip Sarkar, Director of Drinkwell Systems, in a ceremony held in Kolkata. But the real focus wasn’t on the formalities – it was on the solution they’ve built together after nearly a year of discussion and co-development.
Their shared vision took form as they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the framework of the India-Sweden Innovations Accelerator (ISIA) – a platform for clean tech collaboration facilitated by the Swedish Energy Agency, Business Sweden, and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
The result? BactPure – a powerful new combo unit that merges FreeBact® Extreme with Drinkwell’s PureDrops. This innovation not only inactivates all bacteria, viruses, and fungi – it also ensures that the water is visibly clear.
"We’ve had a long and fruitful discussion with Xinix for almost a year," said Mr. Sarkar. "Together, we created a compact unit combining FreeBact® Extreme and PureDrops – now branded as BactPure – that ensures not only safe, but also visibly clean drinking water."
Peter Holmberg emphasized the mission:

With the increasing impact of climate change and flooding in Eastern India, the need for lightweight, effective, and safe water purification has never been more critical. The BactPure system will now be deployed in response kits and long-term installations alike.
Xinix’s FreeBact® range – already trusted by Sweden’s Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), healthcare providers, and humanitarian organizations – is now entering the Indian market in collaboration with Drinkwell, bringing Swedish innovation to local communities.
